Hi All. Just wondered if someone could tell me what kind of fluid I should use to clean the brake shoes. Brakes hardly work but seem to be adjusted okay. I need to know what you think it weighs. Has a Hyster winch on the back and a 4S Blade. Thank you

Some will say diesel works, but the only thing I found if they Are soaked in gear oil is gasoline. Try rinsing them from the top with an ATF funnnel and long hose. Or buy a case or more of brake cleaner.
I installed new shoes on a D6 , it wasn’t as bad a job as you might think, if you cant get them to start working. Also, make sure to address the reason they got wet to start with.

Thanks Tognot. Need to get in there to see whats happening. I only use it about 2 times a year. Always keep it covered so I assumed that it is oil on the shoes.

Get underneath the tractor and remove the drain plug under each final drive housing, you will see them, one on either side, they sit right under the brake drums, that will allow any old oil and water in those normally dry compartments to drain out, then start your brake cleaning process.
I'll give you another tip, don't have your face sitting directly under those plugs as you remove them, they should be dry, but you might find a gallon or more of old oil and gunk in there, a fellow member here in Oz just found about 5 gallons of water in each of his compartments.......

Thank you. I have had them out on one of my other dozers years ago. All the best. Pete

I drained mine and then half filled with diesel---ran it back and forth to flush and then drained it---seemed to help

No one else has answered the weight question:
About 17,000 pounds depending on how much dirt and crap on board, 4 or 5 roller frame only changes the weight a few hundred pounds.
Once I post this one of the "worlds foremost experts" will chime in an offer a different number.
