Track wear question

More

I apologize if this question has been beat to death but I could not find the info I was looking for. I have a D4 (SN D47U43126) and I have all the manuals but I cannot find the measurements that document acceptable wear for undercarriage components. The service manual does not mention it and neither does the operators manual. Can anyone tell me what manual or where this information resides? Im just looking to measure my rails and rollers. Thank you!

Get the part number off one of the links to identify what you have.

So it is not identified in the books? You have to identify the part number and then look up the specs on the PN? Does the PN book give the spec?

it is good to understand the link measurements in order to know it there is a rebuild left but generally if the distance from the back of the track adjuster nut and the big nut on the recoil spring exceeds 3.25 inches your tracks either need the bushings and pins turned or replaced if the links still have service life left in them.

It makes a difference,Cat added more "meat" to some surfaces. Also there have been a number of aftermarket brands of track chain over the years.

Thank you for everyone's responses I will check out that article. I still can't believe that Cat did not list the wear limits in their literature for this machine.

Plenty of information on track wear limits but first you need to know what you have. Information will be found in the appropriate edition of Cat's Custom Track Service Handbook.

I don't know where this chart came from so can't give credit to anyone for it.
