I need to get 2 new water pump/ accessory shafts made for the "new" Thirty's, but noticed there is a big difference in length between the 1925/26 tractor and the 1928/29 tractor on the shaft section running from the water pump to the magneto drive, and I'm wondering was that because of a change in magneto's from Bosch ZR4 to Eisemann G4, or has someone simply done a bodgy job years ago and changed the shaft to fit something completely off the list?
I guess the simple question is, did the accessory shaft change in length between 1925 and 1930 on the Cat Thirty?
Thanks
Mike

Best Parts Book No3 list the following
S-470 Shaft used S1001-S1275 and S1276-S1675 and S1676-up
Caterpillar Parts book 1926-1928
PS1-PS-2932
S-4683-S-6761
Show Part # S-470
only one end is turned down
Caterpillar Parts Book 1928-1932
S-6782-up
PS-2933- UP
Show Part # S-2322
both ends are turned down
There is no mention of an option shaft for the water pump in the Attachments book S-1001-S-10536 and PS-1-PS-14292
To answer your question about the length of shaft changing, i have no idea, the part number did change, but that could have been because the change in the ends not the length.

Thanks for the part number check Erik, I don't have a Bosch ZR4 here to check with, but I do have a Eisemann G4, I'll see how that compares on the 2 tractors.

Mike

Relax everyone, I've worked it out, I forgot I had a rotted and busted ZR4 maggy here that came with these "new" Thirty's, the "shorter" accessory shaft is needed for those mags, so when Cat moved to the Eisemann G4 they needed the longer accessory / waterpump shafts to reach the Eisemann.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, how much are several pictures worth I wonder? You will see the comparison between the busted Bosch ZR4 and a Eisemann G4, I think the ZR4 might be knackered......
