My 5U gov housing has what appears to be a cork plug in this hole. Just wondering if it's normal and what the hole is for.

Hi,
cork seals of the puller bolt threads in the outer end of the shaft so as to assist in removal of the Terminal Lever shaft in the housing.
SRB shows a bolt in use under the heading of Terminal Lever Removal.

Cheers,
Eddie B.

Glad you asked. I noticed that on mine too and was wondering. It appears I have injection and governor work to do soon.

Hi Team,
the shaft hole is a blind threaded hole so the cork helps keep out dirt, rust and mud daubers. It was a common practice of Cat to cork such holes in many locations on their machines.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
