D6C 1972 steering adjustment access

Hello

Im heading to my family tree farm this weekend to help my father work on his 1972 D6C. It will currently only steer one way and my father says the steering needs adjusting. He tells me its difficult to adjust because once the access panel is removed there is a hydraulic line in the way and it cannot be moved enough
to make the adjustment. He says you must disconnect the hydraulic line first. My question is: is this correct and if so is there away around this so I won't have to remove parts to make this adjustment?

thanks
Steve

-are you sure the steering problem is actually a clutch problem...or a lack of brake problem...?

-have you operated machine yourself?

i haven't had any steering clutch problems myself, only brake adjustment so i can't really suggest much...but i think the experts will need a little more info to go on..

Those steering clutches are hydraulic released. Probably got loose cross shaft bearings and the seals are worn.

Bill is correct, the steering clutches are hydraulically actuated and there is no adjustment. When the seal rings on the piston that releases the clutch fail it can't work.
While I have seen cases where the problem was limited to those seals, the most common cause is the bevel gear bearing failure. The bevel gear bearings should be checked in any case.
This is a project that requires special tools and a hydraulic "pancake" press.
