Parts book conundrum (undercarriage question)

More

Sorry if this is obvious to the experts here, newbie question. I’ve been studying all the D4 parts catalogs I’ve managed to accumulate but I’m struggling to find reference to my track carrier roller set up? I can’t find the outer frame portion that holds the roller up, all the ones I can see have no outer support. Even the Laplant Choate books don’t seem to have any pictures that look like mine. In fact the whole of the lower frame seems to be painted slightly differently to the rest of the tractor so I’m wondering if the whole undercarriage is from a different machine. Serial number is 2T-5130SP.

Looks to be homemade. A lower track roller turned upside down and heavy rough welding.

Hi Tony,
The track carrier roller is definitely a bottom roller turned upside down as Herb just mentioned.
The track carrier rollers do not have an outer flange, just two inner flanges and the supporting pillar bolts down on top of the track frame with 4 bolts, not to the side of the track frame like in your picture.

Interesting, thanks guys, that explains why I couldn’t find it in the parts book.. the plot thickens, definitely an intriguing machine, I discovered yesterday that maybe half the flywheel housing studs are broken off.. can’t decide whether to split it now and tackle those whilst I have the radiator, injection pump, governor, starting engine and starting clutch and pinion off or get it together and make it run first.. decisions!

Regards,

Tony

You are close to just pulling the engine with half the studs broken then you can get the main clutch looked over and spruced up while in that ares. Or of course if you really want to to do a thorough job, take trans cover off. Then you have everything bare. Steering ,brakes, trans. and rear bevel. Get all compartments washed and inspected.
Just my logic, may not be correct for all parties.

Good luck

I believe some D4's didn't come with top roller. Hence not shown in parts book.
good luck with ur project.

I'm with HFDZL, I'd split it and do the bolts Tony, it's a easy job to do now while you have the other parts off, then once you get the tractor running, you can really enjoy it without worrying about it breaking in half, plus you will know your clutch and clutch brake, plus the tranny input shaft seal is good!
