This is a rebuild of the CAT D2. I started the rebuild in 2004 and it was completed in 2010. The main tractor is a 1939 from Lake Egmont Nova Scotia and has 3550 hours on the meter. Two others were used as parts ( from Aylesford and Inverness NS). The main one I saw in Halifax NS in 1955. The city had 2 of them used for clearing snow on the sidewalks.
The dozer is a CAT 44 with hydraulics from a 1952. I had to modify those as they usually use steel pipes but I replaced those with hoses. The dash, running boards and draw bar come from a 1957. Front disc idlers are from a 1952.

Beautiful restoration. Question, though, when did the factory paint the "Caterpillar" on the engine block black, and when didn't it? Our Diesel Forty - that's beginning to go through restoration - has it painted black. But, I have a copy of a sales brochure and none of the pictures show it painted.

Hi Team,
scan from a Sales brochure of the day shows NO black high lighting of the Caterpillar name from the Factory--BUT--depending on the Dealer painter he may or may not elect to do a high light--Salesman may also request it be done for a special customer and also especially for display at a Farm Field Days or repainting and sprucing up a Trade In for display or such.
These are things I noted when I worked at a Dealership.
Your experience may vary depending upon Dealership directives/preferences.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

I could tear up a LOT of Sod (Mama's yard) with those Grousers!
Is that considered Stock height?
If so, How tall are they?
I like the blocking for the Display also!
