Do you happen to know who owned that equipment? Would it possibly be in Minnesota? It looks like a McCoy Special D8 in that one photo. Danens excavating had a McCoy they were using with their DW21 scrapers in the 1957 era.

The old picture of the overturned scraper reminded me of a fatal accident on a "Uke" back in 1972 near Cheney KS. He was a friend of mine and was working on a highway near there and was heading downhill with a load and something malfunctioned in the steering caused it to overturn right on top of him. He was only 22 at the time.

The job site was by Dubuque Iowa. The contractor was Mickle and Ross based in Newton Iowa. About the D8,the few that Dad talked about and I have seen were called bull 8's. They were D8's with 337 engines and torque converters.

These photos were from the construction of the Medicine Creek Dam in SW Nebraska in the late 1940's.
