Help identify an old D2

Buddys,

I am trying to save an old D2 dozer from the scrapper. It has a homemade ELECTRIC winch mounted on the back, so I can't get to the serial number/model tag. I could not find the engine tag. It is an old one with the same shift quadrant as my 5J1404Sp, but the casting number on the left side of the transmission case is 4F something whereas the number on my 5J is 5B something. It has electrics and a really nice Holt blade. The left track is half off the sprocket, and the sprockets are pretty worn. Each pad has a 4" square hole cut in it. Does that indicate badly worn pins? The rear fuel tank is NOT tombstone shaped, it looks almost like a 30 tank mounted sideways. The Pony turns. It has a hard nose. Any suggestions on how I can determine if the engine is stuck, as I don't know how to crank it with the pump in place. It was backed in about 20+ years ago, so I can't back it away from the blade. It will be a bugger to get out of where it has been sitting. Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I would like to save it if possible.

P.S.In looking at D2 images on Google, I found the horizontal fuel tank like this one on US Military D-2's.

To drag a dozer with the blade down, chain to towing hook under front of belly pan or if no hook, you can hook to drawbar anchor point under center of the tractor. Do not pull on radiator support!

Anyway work chain under edge of dozer blade and when you tighten up to pull it, it will slide across into the center and tend to lift the dozer and keep it from digging in......much!

Serial number is on side of left rear of engine block just below head gasket line. If you look in over the pony start clutch and pinion controls you should see the serial number tag or where it was with two rivets or the holes where they were. Serial number should be stamped into the block between the tag rivet holes.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Thanks for help guys. It appears to be an old military tractor judging by the tank. It was backed up over a 2" steel spike and it took the left track off the sprocket and up through the pads. ZERO oil shows on the stick and I think it is stuck Pony turns but with no evidence of compression. I has sat in the Id aho snow for at least 25 years. I will post a picture of the 4" square holes cut in each pad. Why would anyone do that?

Those are snow relief holes to allow the packed ice and snow to be pushed out of the links so that it doesn't bind up the tracks when operating. Common thing to see in snowy climates.
