Didn't realize it was that many years ago when it broke. There were danger signs even during the construction that should have been cause for alarm.
It leaked like a sieve when they were filling but continued to fill it until it all gave way. That must have been pure hell for the dozer operators trying to plug the hole in a losing cause. Great video what is was like on the dam as it was crumbling under the dozers.
A great boondoggle by the Bureau of Relaxation er I mean Reclamation.

A photo of the dozers that were lost, said to be a TD-24 and a D8H or D9H. I couldn't just stand there and watch them wash away, I cant believe they even tried to fix the wash out. Stupid operators! The video of the gentlemen talking about the D9 he was on is the one on top of the dam.

One of my co workers families lost most everything in that dam break. She remembers going back and seeing all of the dead cows.
