The farms 420D backhoe wouldn't go into forward, just reverse. The dealer suggested that the solenoids were the problem so we peeled back the mat & floor plate to have a look. The coils all ohm'd ok , but no power to the fwd coil when the lever in fwd. We removed the selector module from the column to test it & it had a rattle when I shook it. Turns out the electric half is sealed and works via a small lever with a magnet. Plastic lever broken! Complete unit is over $300! So here is my fix
The alum was quick to machine, light weight, & didn't interfere with the operation of the magnetic button.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking, plus a trip to the dealer was spared. The rest of the unit seems very rugged, just that weak connecting link. And as always, I like to pound my problems with the hammer I have.

Was the toggle coming up against a stop before the handle was? Wondering why it broke like that given it's not pushing against anything but that lip in the toggle side looks suspicious.
Cheers,

"Dear Valued Caterpillar Customer:
By your recent actions - complete with photographic evidence on a public forum - you have voided all warranties and have violated the covenants, conditions, and restrictions stated in subparagraph 4,257(c)(1) of the original purchase and sale agreement signed by the original purchaser of this fine piece of Caterpillar equipment. As soon as COVID 19 disappears and the looting and rioting subside in Peoria, our crack team of equipment repossession representatives will be paying you a visit to confiscate your backhoe and to teach you the value of abiding by a purchase and sale agreement you may or may not have read, and may or may not have even signed.
Have a Nice Day,
Caterpillar"

Neil, I tried to push the plastic parts together tight for measuring and the crack came up short. I'm guessing the plastic shrank & cracked. There isn't any interference inside.
