Thanks. yesterday i was pulling a 10.6 krause tandem in some pretty boggy places in 4th and 3rd gears. the tractor handled the disk fine in both gears but the disk did a better job in 4th. today i am going to attach the vanbrunt seed drill to the rear of the disk and go over the same acres plant some millet. i may need to shift down to 3rd for this but since the ground has been broken and the disk will just be skimming i might try 4th again. this is my first farming attempt with steel tracks and it just amazes me how efficient these little tractors are, especially in soft boggy ground. lucky i still have some of the old machinery left over from the old days of farming with the two cyl john deere. 85 hp vs 54 hp. amazing!!

Oh man, sounds like you’re having ALL of the fun! I didn’t mention that for us, we usually pull an offset disc, which are harder to pull. A tandem disc when we used to rent one, we could go 13-15’ depending on depth 3rd/4th still.
If you’re enjoying yourself, why rush things?
Crawlers are great in the soppy stuff for sure. You can get in earlier to plant, etc.
Glad to hear you’re using a drill. I have seen guys broadcast seed, go over it with a tandem disc (shallow/skimming) but the disc wasn’t leveled. Results were a very uneven stand.
Let’s see some photos so you can rub it in!
Thanks, JM

Wow looks like these old girls can pull a lot more than i thought, I have a D4 6U 11555 , that I've only used for scrub clearing so far . Mine looks identical to yours except for the winch. I'm on the lookout for a set of offsets for it but will now be looking for a larger set thanks to your picture, have fun.

-agree with Juiceman, if things are going well don't rush things, generally easier on stuff all around...
-most field work is probably done 3 - 4 mph....you can still get a lot done in a day (always more with less breakage, downtime)
- no need to lug the engine, the easiest way to tell load is to throttle down a bit then throttle up, how easy/ quickly does it recover RPM..
-number one rule, have FUN
