I have a old D69u dozers in need of a lot of TLC. Need to operate but no snap in clutch. Moves if pull back on lever but once I release it it stops. Have manual but can not figure out what collar it refers to to loosen to adjust clutch. Any help would be great.

Take the top cover off and look inside. Work the clutch lever back and forth and you will get an understanding how the clutch release works. You will notice an adjusting collar toward the rear of the clutch pack and that is the collar to which they are referring. The old tractors had a clamp bolt that had to be loosened but I think your tractor probably has an indexing lock that needs to be pulled out then the collar will rotate. Its a right hand thread.

I believe all the D6 9u's use a 1/2 inch bolt to clamp the clutch adjustment on a dry clutch. Cat supplied a special tool to help tighten or loosen the clamp. Most of which are long gone,so today a 3/4 inch universal joint socket and 2 foot or more extension will make it easier. But check the tool box you may get lucky. L shaped handle 2 feet long and a universal joint socket.

Once you have the clamp bolt loose,it most likely will a lot of force to move the collar.

While you are in there take a look at your thermoid couplers, make sure they aren’t frayed. Also check the alignment of the engine to the “transmission”. If the fron motor mount is shot, this will wear things out quickly. Out of sight - out of mind.
