Hi Guys,
Just wondering if i could get a few pointers in trying to get the clutch freed up on my D4 , it's stuck in the engaged position, it was left like that a couple of years ago by the previous owner. I can start it in gear and it drives ok , no slippage , i just can't get it to release. It's a bit of a problem as i need to get the stick rake on so that the old girl can get to work and earn her keep.Any help would be appreciated. I have'nt been able to get my hands on an omm yet or a service manual either.

Did you check the linkage is't freese some were and did you refill the oil cup on the big yoke with lubrifient and try to knock slightly on outside cluch plate and if you can start the machine with transmission angaged and pull back the 2 stering levers in same time it could help to defresse but take care.

is the clutch lever frozen? or is the clutch plate rusted to the flywheel? is this a dry clutch or an oil clutch? is the clutch compartment flooded with water?

This is the reason I always leave the clutch released after engine shutdown.
Also, while the engine is running it is always engaged.

first drain the clutch housing and rinse with diesel. then put the plug back in and fill to the pilot shaft with diesel fuel and run the tractor every other day for a few months. then take it out and break it free.

Yep all linkages checked and are free. It's a dry clutch and the housing is clean and no water in there. The outer teeth of the clutch plate have some rust on them from condensation i hope. I've been turning the engine over by hand and tapping the outer edge of the pressure plate with a copper hammer to hopefully free it up if that may be the problem. The clutch lever is just solid as soon as i try to release the clutch. And the clutch brake works. And yes i have put oil in the yoke lube cup.

pretty common problem to have clutch disc rust tight and filling with diesel is one of the common remedies. you can always wash the clutch out with brake cleaner when it free up.

Pick your poison.
Take a chance on drying it out if the rust releases, or just take it apart and fix it now.
No cheap fixes with out risk.
