OT--Deere 120 excavator

I'm using my in-laws Deere 120 excavator and the fuel shutoff/open up solenoid is not working. They currently use a piece of baling wire to manually pull the solenoid open so it will run (farmer fix).
It's a 24v system with 3 wires going to the solenoid. one hot, one ground and I'm told the 3rd one come from the alternator. Talked to a local shop and the guy sorta remembers this issue in the past and they just wired the third wire into a switch to power.
Has anybody run into this on Deere equipment??

It’s possible that’s a dual winding coil with a high amperage “pull in” circuit and then a low amperage “hold” circuit. The coil may burn out if continuously energized through the pull in terminal. Have you checked for continuity through the terminals?

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D
