I hope I didn't drill too far. When I started pulling the retainer, I thought maybe I hadn't drilled far enough because nothing was moving. So I drilled a little farther.

Then I got the cheater.

So is the 1/4" drill depth adequate? Should be able to tell when you go from cast iron to aluminum chips.

it probably is. The depth stop on our drill press is not the most accurate, but I did start to see aluminum at the stop. I just overthought it and decided I needed to go deeper when all I needed was to use more leverage. I'll check it with my caliper.
