For Old Magnet:
Talked to technician at VanBergin on how to get snap ring out of Positork Drive Pinion. He has special tool - uses a Vise to crush barrel enough to distort snap ring out of groove - then rotates 90 degrees and crushes back round!!! Set up drilled a hole and pushed snap ring down to catch edge. Bob.

Thanks for the info. I already tried drilling a hole to access snap ring. I was not happy with the result. I didn't try distorting the housing. For what they cost I'd just as soon buy a new complete drive.

11/64 drill a hole threw the round housing to center area of snap ring - 1/2" from open edge of ring. Reversed drill so round smooth end is pushing on snap ring. Push down with drill in drill press till you can catch the edge and pop out.

I promptly broke the drill bit when it hit the snap ring. Could the sequence be distort the sleeve to pry out the snap ring, then drill the hole to get access to seat the snap ring on assembly? Forget that, doesn't make sense, assembly should be easy, just tuck the ring in between the sleeve and gear.
