Is there a register for determining the manufacturing year for a 212 Motor grader (Serial # 9T 4649). Am in the process of restoring the breaks and would like to find new shoe and lining brake assemblies (5H3748 or 5H3708)

Thanks!
Keith

Last year 1956.

I had a 1953 model for a while.

I bought a strip of brake lining and rivets from a clutch rebuilder in Birmingham AL
called Automotive Friction. I had to clamp it to the shoe and then drill and countersink for the rivets which I set with a punch and hammer. I was lucky I had only one lining that had broken loose from the one shoe. Didn’t really know what the problem was, just could hear it scraping inside the drum as I rolled it over.

Do you have a puller to remove the wheel and drum?

McMaster Carr has friction material as well. I looked online and it’s available in various thicknesses and widths. If your shoes are toast, you may be able to find used ones from a dismantled machine. There are websites online that list availability by part number. I usually start any quest for a part with an online search for the part number. Weed out the garbage hits that claim to have everything (just click on my site please even though I don’t really know if I have it) and you can usually get a feel for what’s out there.

There’s the For sale/wanted section of this ACMOC website to post your needs as well.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D
