a question . i am getting ready to pull the injection pump off of mt D4 2T so i can replace the oring in the fuel galley. do i need to make sure the main engine is in time before i remove the pump? i don't think so but i want to check anyway
Thanks

No, you'll be fine, there is just a double notched shaft, it will only fit one way. Just don't turn the pump very far or the wrong pump plunger will come up.

thanks . i don't intend to turn the pump at all. do i need to lock the pump some way? will spring pressure on the cam have a tendency to turn the pump?

Hi Bursitis,
The cam folloowers will hold the cam in postion, if there is movment it will be very small as i have done this before. I would also look at doing the oil seal in the filter housing, as it will be over 50 years old and most likely worn out too.

Regards

Daryl

Theres an oil seal on the pump camshaft that keeps the injection pump oil from leaking into the accessory drive case space on the front of the engine. Not sure how hard it is to change but surely easier now than coming back later to do it.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Best to set pump for #1 TDC in case something happens.
