Starter on the pony motor gave up on me when trying to start up. Removed and tore apart. Beyond rebuilding. So fiqured I would be up a creek finding a starter for a 1956 model. Well, goggled the model number and low and behold. There it was. Available new from 4-5 places. Amazon had the best deal. Ordered it and had a 2 day delivery. It was shipped from Kent, Wa. to Memphis, Tn. back to Great Falls, Mt. and delivered to me in 2 days with free shipping. Installed New starter and we are up and running like a champ. Guess the internet is not such a bad thing after all. Great to know some parts are still available new.

That is pretty cool to know. I think that is a common style starter used on a bunch of farm tractors too but still, nice to know it is an option.

I hope my pony motor starter never goes out. Well, I guess it is easy to replace a pull rope but I only have two arms, and if they go, I don't think they could be replaced.

In my 75 years I have never seen a starter that looks like this one. The mounting, the starter drive-not the usual type I have been around But haven't been around much equipment before. Normally automotive. Learn something every day never to old to learn.

The old Cat pony starters look like the ones used on Allis Chalmers tractors in the 50 s.

The cast bendix housing is hard to find..... be careful removing 1 stuck/froze in its mounting. looks like ac tractor but not the same.

I have 2 allis chalmers CA's here and a WD45, the bendix may have different teeth but the springs are the same, and a single tapered tip bolt with a jamb nut locks them in place too. if they are different, it is slight and I have never had to try but I believe I could make one work.

The alice cast housing bolt hole is indexed in a different location than the cats housing. I tried many years ago trying to make a alice 1 work. I really don't remember if i got it working or not.

I believe minny moline used those cast housing too. good luck .

Everything other than the nose housing was very standard old farm tractor starter. But that stuff is getting scarce. Because I rebuilt so many of them, I take them for granite. Better hang on to my spare.
