Amount of cable on front CCU

I have a 13A D8 with a front cable control unit. How many feet of cable should there be in total. There is a 3 sheave top and lower pulley?

Thanks,

Nathan M

Closest I could find was 72 Ft 1/2" 6 x 19 Right Lang Lay for a 6 part line on a #30 CCU
For a #24 CCU the drum capacity is 75 ft so I would say get the 75 ft.

The old timers used to put extra cable on and keep the drum mostly empty. The extra cable was kept beyond the wedge and looped up and tied to the right front sweep or that area. Then when the cable got badly frayed you could just cut a few feet off the drum end and pull a bit more off the loop. Saved a lot of cable that way.

Not really answering your question, but adding to the post. My dad had 3T D7 with a front CCU. He never bought any cable for his CCU. He took the good pieces of his colleague’s left over cable after retooling the rear CCU’s on two 14A D8’s. Dad had a Hyster D7N on his tractor’s Rear. He seldom charged to pull the D 8’s out of their hang ups. Free cable and occasional free lowboy transports were the norm. Dad charged $10/hr for dirt work and $12/hr for clearing in the 1950’s.
