The center of draught on this plow looks like it's inline with the right track. He must have to apply a fair amount of steering correction but I didn't see a lot in there. A good shot of it between 5:00 and 5:30. Perhaps the idea is to have a much larger tractor than the plow would normally require so the draft point is less of an issue?
I quite like the design of the plow hitch - it almost looks like an OEM assembly - and the operator's vantage point is really good to observe the plow

UGH!! those damn squeaky rails!!! You'd think that tractor would have SALT rails on it. Looks like he found an old gas transmission line, bet he didn't call before he ripped, lol.

I would assume its better to have both tracks up on firm ground to pull a plow that large? Hence the offset in the plow?

yep, ripping up that field real good! i wouldn't say that's a lot of plow for 30+ tons of steel on tracks to pull:party:
not sure why he would need to go that deep, looks very dry and sandy type soil

Here in the UK it is normal to plough "on the land" with a crawler, whereas with a wheeled tractor (except for the very big ones) it is usual to plough "in the furrow", i.e. have one wheel running in the previous furrow bottom.
With only a single furrow then it will for sure be offset from the centre line of the crawler.
It is much easier to keep straight when ploughing "on the land".
Does the D8N have clutch and brake steering ? If so I don't see a problem with that setup.

Looks like they are plowing for a vineyard, I wouldn’t really call that deep.

But the farmer in me is screaming plow in both directions. I have never pulled a mold board plow. I have done a bit with a disc plow,so I know about a dead furrow. So your going to have a dead furrow how ever your doing it so put the blade on and close 2 rather than one. Or how ever you smooth things out normally. Or is there another "secret" to plowing I don't know about making it better to plow it all one way.

-absolutely agree Ray, when doing any kind of tillage! i would move over 100' or whatever and be plowing back to the other end of the field:thumb:

That works when you hardly put the plow in the ground, when you plow like this you will create a pattern of deep ditches and levee’s... I mean people actually use plows like this to start large ditches and levees.

most cereal crops have a rather shallow root system, so not much need to go deep...besides most places on the prairies you would only be bringing up clay gumbo....nasty! there are pockets of better soil but the average tillage depth i would guess 6", probably 8" tops
