I am installing a Cat electric start pony set up on my D2/3J which has a seat tank. If possible, can someone give me the exact placement of the battery box. I would imagine it was installed in the same place as a D2/4U-5U Cat with seat tank and electric start pony. Thanks for any help. Joe Giraud:D

With seat tank everthing goes on left side front of box looks to be about to dash then the toolbox and room at back end of fender for a light and with fender mount tank bat box, toolbox and light go on right fender

Hi Willie, Thanks for the help. I'm almost there with the electric start conversion. Spare Dash is drilled, all electric start parts are on pony, starter motor being rebuilt. Have electric start rod that I borrowed to have one fabricated for me, all I need is the 1F7631 Bellcrank. If someone would let me borrow theirs, I could have one fabricated. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer for completion of the project. Have a nice weekend.

Dozerman51, I measured the seat tank fenders I got from a guy who told me they were off a 5J. The battery box was mounted on the left as stated. The holes in my fender are as follows:

Measuring from front of fender:
First two holes are 16 1/2" at center from front edge.
Second two holes are 24" at center from front edge.

Measuring from outside of fender:
Outside two holes are 1 3/4" at center from outer edge of fender.
Inside two holes are 8 1/2" at center from outer edge of fender.

These holes look to be factory but be advised I did not get a battery box with the fenders so I cannot absolutely say they are accurate, though they look as they would provide adequate clearance at the front for rope starting and clearance at the rear for tool box and light. The D2 photo archive book I have shows battery boxes placed exactly where these holes are so I am planning on using them as soon as I find a box. It may not hurt to place small pieces of tape on your fender at the hole locations and compare the footprint of your box to them before drilling.

Here is what the bell crank looks like, the lower arm is about the same as the standard one, it is made of brass. How are you going to have one made? cast? forged?
