Just bought a fifty last weekend. It is a little locked but it will turn a little. Enough to get the pistons to move about an 1/8 of an inch. Everthing looks to be OK. The gears in the front timing cover are rusty and scalely looking. At first I thought the camshaft was stuck because the crank moves this much but after taking the governor cover off I can see it moving a little. Got diesel soaking in the liners. Just wondering if it would be wise to remove the heads or just keeping working the crank a little at a time. For those of you that read my post about hauling this one, I ended up getting a truck which worked great. We loaded it with a 3020 on one side of the trailor and our RD4 on the other side. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Try mixing some ATF with the soaking diesel. Let sit a week or so. Then try it again. Good luck-glen

If the above doesn't work, try putting some Pepsi-Cola in the bores and ONLY leave it for 24 hours AT MOST. Then flush it out with diesel fuel or similar and compressed air. Be careful when using the air that you have protective clothing and GOOD eye protection - like sealed goggles. A good long blowing nozzle for the air is a good idea too.

If that doesn't get it freed up, look at removing the heads and doing some more drastic surgery.

Why not pull the valve covers and see if you have stuck valves. If it moves a little the pistons may not be seized. You can remove the rocker assys and see if it turns over. You can probably free up the valves one at a time.

Kroil it. If you use Kroil to unstick an engine you will never use anything else. Kroil will loosen things that diesel and other fluids wont even touch. It isn't cheap, somewhere around $40 per gal but well worth it.
