Thank you David for posting those for me. It appears that an engine and trans have been located and now I need to find a radiator that is similar to the ones posted in the pictures. All but the first of the scans is directly out of the 2 1/2 ton book that was for the military in WWI. Any help in directing me to any parts is appreciated, specially the radiator. I figure we will have to build the armor to complete the tractor.

I took some photos of that 2 1/2 ton tractor but didn't realise that it was yours. Congratulations on finding the motor. It'll be a good thing to have at least one restored and preserved.

It cost me a bit to get there and back but I count every cent well spent. Thanks again to you and all concerned for a truly great show. I'm SLOWLY getting the 1,900 photos named and arranged for GWH75Diesel. When it's done, I'll get some DVD's burned and get them over to all who wanted them, along with my own collection of photos.

A while back there was a post about a WW1 Holt 5 ton on E-Bay. It did not meet the reserve (I think it was $35000.00) . It was here in East Tennessee. I found out later that that a collector from England bought it and shipped it across the water.

when i was looking at the green holt ,i thougth it may have been a 5t ,but the tracks didnt look like either 2 or 5 ,god pic ,thank you ,bruce oz

2103, that one was a bit spendy and I too heard that it went over the pond. I beleive Ron McBain previously bought one from Fred Heidrick prior to the sale.

Deas, I also need to turn my attention to another rare beast that I am trying to piece back together, namely an early Peoria Holt 60. I have a complete rolling chassis and I need to find the engine and radiator somewhere. I believe we traced it to late 1912 or very early in 1913 if I recall correctly. Someone recently told me (at the BSOT I believe) that my 60 would qualify as the oldest Peoria Holt known (I know the Northern Holt that was at the show was a 1909 but was attributed to Minneapolis rather than Peoria). There is a really nice Peoria Holt 60 that was at the 2000 show in Peoria that is owned by a family in Indiana I believe. I am told that this 60 is a bit later than mine but this is only what I have been told. I am not entirely sure but I believe the engine I need is an El head similar to the engine in the Holt 120, but only 4 cyls. There has to be one out there behind a barn, in a sawmill or pump or some such somewhere. If I can dig out the sales book for this one I will get it to you for posting.

I'm pretty much removed from the action here in DownUnder but I'll certainly keep my eyes and ears open for you.

To the best of my knoweldge, which ISN'T encyclopaedic, there were very few if any of those very early Holts and Bests that came DownUnder. I suspect that the first of them to arrive on our shores might have been post WW1. They were arriving in ever-increasing numbers by the 1930's but that is way after the machines that you're talking about were out of production.

Still, I'll keep an ear to the ground.

What I have found with collecting this stuff is that you NEVER know where something will turn up. Although it is not likely it will turn up in Oz I would not bet against it.

Most of the Peoria tractors were sold east of the Mississippi and in foreign markets. My chassis came from Canada just north of the Niagra Falls. The engine was apparently removed and used as a power source and then disposed of, recycled and probably ended up in the skies over Germany. Anyway, somewhere in the Eastern US, Canada or over seas, one of these engines exists. If you could post the page that has the engine pictured from the info I sent you I would appreciate it.

Can anyone tell me more about this combine at the BSOT? Looks like it might have Cat D6 running gear, but does anyone know what the rest of it is from? Is it a homemade machine?
