Yes, you were correct the 1" is to much and the only way to keep the clutch in is to hold it. I will try to adjust the clutch this weekend. Again thanks for the help.

I think I have other issues. The release yoke is setting crooked and after looking at the reference book I think I need to replace a bushing and seal in the flywheel clutch enclosure lower section. How does this come off? Do you have to take the top section off and remove the clutch and then the lower section? When I adjusted the linkage I noticed alot of play in the shaft that went to the yoke.

Looking at the serviceman's reference book, it appears there is no reason to remove the clutch just to remove the lower half of the clutch housing. The clutch is supported by it's attachment to the transmission flange and the only connection is on the clutch lever where it engages the release yoke. That should easily disengage once you have the last bolts out of the bell housing

I found that the bracket holding the clutch linkage had both mounting bolts loose allowing everything to be in a bind. I tried to adjust the clutch by loosening the clamping bolt and turning the adjusting collar. Do I need to remove the pins from the cam in order to turn the collar? Should the transmission be in gear. The only thing that happened was to spin the clutch without moving toward the engine. Could the clutch be adjusted all the way in already?

Thanks, your information will help. After losening the adjusting collar clamp bolt should the clutch adjustment turm easily? When I tried the the whole clutch and shaft turned. Could it be fully adjusted or stuck? Would you know if and where I might get a new clutch?

Clutch won't spin if you have it in gear while adjusting the collar.
How easy depends on the kind of service life the machine has had. Turns easy if kept lubed......can be very difficult if rusted up.

I wouldn't go shopping for a replacement until you work the adjustment.
Complete units would only be available used.....but Cat still has the individual pieces required for overhaul (disc segments, rivets, brake disc, links, etc)
I don't believe the plate assemblies are available new anymore and if they were would probably exceed the value of the tractor.

I found that the brackett that holds the clutch lever to the bell housing had a loose bolt letting it rack and affecting the engagement of the clutch. Thanks for all the information and help. This a great resource.
