I'm working on a cat 28 and when I put it in gear and let the clutch out the right findal drive is makeing a LOT of noise. Almost sound's like the pinion gear is driveing over the bevel gear. I herd that on the big twenty that the rear end was good for tearing out bearings and I'm wondering if that's what's going on? Like the pinion bearings are shot. Has anyone had this problem befor? How do you take the sproket off. I see it is different than a big twenty. I can't turn the sproket to take the pinion bearing cover off. I mean the sproket is really locked up! Thanks Mike

Mike, There should be a drain plug on the bottom of that final drive. Let some oil come out. That will tell you most of the story. You could also pull the entire final drive off with the sprocket on and rebuild it on a bench. Good luck!
