Here are some pictures taken at the San Martin Tractor & Antique Construction Show held this weekend. Most of the pictures I'm posting will be of Caterpillar tractors. The Citrus 22 in the picture belongs to me. It is equipped with orchard Citrus Fenders, which protected low-hanging fruit trees from damage. It was also available with an optional tail seat configuration. The Orchard Citrus 22 not only had citrus fenders, it had an array of other accessories. The seat was 4 inches lower than the standard top seat, a different manifold configuration so that the exhaust pipe would vent out near the front idler, an orchard hood with special side curtains, and a fender mounted tool box.

Some history on the Citrus fenders: In the late 1920's and early 30's F. S. Bishop of Santa Anna, California, and Bowman, also located in Southern California, started to manufacture the F.S. Bishop citrus fenders, and Bowman manufacture the Bowman citrus fenders as an after market accessory to protect the citrus trees from damage (I don't know who started to manufacture the citrus fender accessory first. I am pretty sure it was F.S. Bishop. The citrus growers were having these fenders installed on their Caterpillar tractors: PT 10's, PV 15's, 8C 20's, 7C 15's and other Caterpillar tractors of that era. My take is Caterpillar realized the market for citrus fenders on their tractors. The model 22 was the first tractor that Caterpillar offered the citrus fender accessory option.

In the parts manual Caterpillar refers the citrus fender as an orchard fender so that it could be marketed not only to the citrus growers, but also to all fruit tree orchard growers.

Thanks for the info. I bought one of these and just got it home. I have started to disasemble it so I can get the engine running again. I sure hope there will be one of these at the show in Woodland. Thanks again and have a great day!

The MG1's were "BOMBER-NURSES" on Air Fields. The primary purpose of the air system was to inflate shock absorber struts on aircraft. A rear connection from the compressor is used for pressures up to 1000 P.S.I. . The front outlet hose is connected to a booster pump with a maximum pressure of 1500 P.S.I. . The 110 volt D.C. generator on the fender was to power a external energizer for operation of aircraft engine inertia starters. Bill
