Beautiful photos! Did you accumulate good moisture over the winter? GWH

Hey there GWH!! Got some good moisture early on in the winter....then it
stopped. Not hurting yet, but we are getting behind....warmer first ( see
above) THEN some rain....not holding my breath that it will work out that way...
we will just have to take what we get. :)

Some more nice photo's. Question for you, do have your fuel rack opened up on the D5? Not to many guys run pyro and maniflod pressure guages.
Nice looking fields your working their.
Still have snow on the ground here Idaho. I would bet that where were are located folks will not be in field for another 2-3 weeks depending on the weather. We will certaiinely take the mositure though, hopefully we will all have a good year ahead of us.
Good the see that Kirby is still riding shotgun.
Woody

Woody!! Yup, the rack has been opened up some....show me an ag Cat that hasn't been fueled some.... .....mine isn't turned up too far; only so much that the dry clutches & brakes will handle. The early D5's that were "wet decked" and the later D5B series, well that's another story. Some of those are turned WAY up; real Hot Rods. Interestingly enough, my D5 doesn't
pull a lot of boost....not nearly as much as my 9U.....the pyro is a different
matter; she'll climb up to 900+ on a good pull....the bottom line is that it
handles the 800 plow real well; I spend a lot of time in 5th.....that really smokes the acres over in a hurry. :)

I wonder if your D5SA 98J has wide gauge and straight drive and i think i saw turbo too right? and i wonder if it s the same Cat D5 96J series or not??I always like Cat D5 96Jseries. Thanks:D
FarmerD5

Yup......wide gauge, direct drive 6 speed tranny & turbo'ed......not sure how much difference there is between the 96J series & the 98J series.....the earlier
D5's sold around here were all 5 speed and the very early ones were normally aspirated....the bulk of the units sold here were the later 98J series, turbo'ed
with the 6 speed ag transmission ( part of the SA package).....really serious owners would drop in the oil clutches & brakes ( the so called "wet deck") conversion....then, while the local dealer wasn't looking, a little trip into the
fuel rack.

Delta Dirt

Delta!! Ya little Dickens!!!! Nope, didn't drop the camera.....did get a new one however.....used it to capture this scene in one of the cherry orchards here at SRS Ranches....taken on April 2.....a little nippy on this morning as the cherry guys had all the heaters and wind machines going to
try to head off problems from the cold ( it was 22 om this morning)....also
had some of the irrigation blocks going in the lower, colder parts of the orchard, which helps to protect the trees.

....I like to stay away from the orchard side of the ranch all that I can (
until there are some ripe cherries to swipe).....here is a shot from the day
before ( April 1).....just as cold, but it sure made the air nice and clear (
which makes for good pictures) We had to wait on our spraying operation that
day for quite a while ( thaw out the sprayer for one) so I used the down time
to snap this one; Mt Adams to the left of frame & Mt Rainier up near Seattle
to the right of the frame.

.....and when Mt St Helens acts up....well we have ring side seats for that
too....from a few years back....a little "throat clearing eruption" that I
caught one spring evening:

98J, Yes I would agree that many AG Cats have been fuel up. Seems like when ever we bought a tractor we always said we should have bought a bigger one. We turboed our 9U several years back and it made quite a difference in the performance of the tractor. :) Getting hard to get the younger generation to run the old yellow iron. They are still one of the best in my opinion, easy on fuel and maintenance costs are reasonable. Im not sure how many of these new trators will be running and looking as good as yours does when they are 30 plus years old. :)

great pix. Just up river from you in the Lewiston valley. Nice to see someone around with a good old 5 with a white hat on. I worked for a farmer that had 7 of them and swore that he got by for $1000 maintenance per year, or less. He used them for a long time till he bought Challengers when they first came out.

Yes, 98j, it sounds like our winters were similar, except we had a dry winter. Had trouble geting a good stand every where. Had an inch of rain a few days ago. Have been having 30 to 40 mile winds all spring. That will reduce our moisure for wheat. I really know how to spell house. Darrol
