That explains the pressure.

I bought a 1916 Stanley steamer Mt. Wagon that had sat for 35 years and the 40 gallons diesel in the tank had turned green with bacteria growth. It smelled bad too. It sludged up the bottom of the tank and it took a year before I was able to call it a clean tank again. Bacteria growth in fuel is really a problem with boats and it is a constant battle with them. My bad fuel was used to burn stump piles. King of Oz has the right idea of using the fuel for other purposes. If it is contaminated, no use starting a bacteria growth in an other rig's fuel tank.

Does the bacteria actually grow in the diesel or (as I read sometime in the distance past) does it grow in a condensate water/diesel junction?

The bugs live in the water and feed on the diesel oil. They mulyiply in the water and foul the fuel. It only takes a microscopic amount of water. Buying and using a biocide is a very good idea. The damage the bugs can do is simply amazing.
