More

I have an electric starter that came with my 9u I'm thinking bout putting on so I don't have to mess with the pony motor all the time. I'll post some pictures of it and see if any of you guys can identify it. I can't find any tags or anything on it besides a few numbers.

That's a really crappy picture of the s/n. Those cell phone cameras are the pits.
1115556 is a starter solenoid for a Delco 50MT starter.

Thanks for the reply old magnet. Yea they don't take the best pictures. Does the 12v on the second number mean it's just a 12 volt? I don't get why it has two solenoids on it.

The auxiliary solenoid makes the ignition switch last a lot longer. Most of them aren't really up to the amperage that big solenoid requires

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Thanks for the information. Has anyone put these on the 9u before? Some of the bolts to bolt it to the housing you can't get on them to tighten them really at all.

For the bolt against the block use the smaller headed bolt style which takes a twelve point socket. Them style bolts have a name but can't remember what they are called. You can easily tighten them with a long extension and a swivel on the socket.

12 point flange head cap screw is what I think you're talking about.

I believe you are right. The fastener store will know if you describe it.

I can't tell if you have the right drive end housing (looks right).
You need to grind a slight relief in the lever housing to clear bolt and 5/8" wrench. Assemble with bolt in place on the starter.

Also on my IH544 more often than not, when you hit the starter switch it grinds on the flywheel. What Ive been thinking of doing is install that second solenoid to
merely close the circuit to the starter and leave the original solenoid to engage.

Do you think that would work and/or help the grinding situation?
