Just got a Traxcavator 933 and I'm serial number challenged

I just got this 933 (at least that's what it claims to be) and I need to find the serial number. I searched the forums but I can't match up the suggested serial number locations to anything I can find. Previous owner says he never found it either.

The closest I've found is this location on the side of the engine block. It appears to have had a plate there at one time but no more. There does seem to be a number stamped there but it doesn't match the format that I think I'm looking for (looks like 5?10)

I've also looked "behind the seat" (in the battery compartment) but haven't found anything there.

I'm sure I'm just looking in the wrong places. Can anyone help me out with rookie (specific enough for dummies) instructions and maybe pictures for where I should look?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Looks to be a 933 42Axxxx series unit with D320 engine. S/n locations are LH side of engine (tag gone) and LH rear of the transmission case.

Old Magnet,

Thanks for the reply. The previous owner thought it was "mid 50's" vintage. It does have the 4F,2R gear shift (no separate F/R lever) so wouldn't that that make it earlier than a 'G'? I know nothing about these but I'm learning fast. I'll see if I can find that transmission number tonight.

Thanks again for the help.

Bob

You are correct. If it doesn't have the F/R lever it is pre 1961 and pre 42A2106 which would make it a 933F model with non turbo D311H engine.

The serial number on these was in three places, on the engine as described, the transmission above the drawbar mount on the LH side and on the loader frame, RH side below the tilt crank main pivot pin.

If the back of transmission plate is gone but you can see the rivet holes, carefully shine up the area, the serial number should be stamped into the transmission under the tag also.

They look like cousins - my parts book says I have a 933A #11a1219. Will look for # on loader arm in morning and if I find will post picture location. If we leave them alone in the woods will they produce little clones? Bob

Those three places are where to look but the parts book states only the engine and transmission case and then contradicts itself stating only one s/n tag and two drive screws.

Thanks everyone. I'm still looking. Is this where I would find the transmission case number?

I found what looks like two rivets but no plate and haven't found anything stamped there.

If that's the right spot, I'll do some more cleaning/polishing and I'll also check the RH loader arm tomorrow.

Yet another source... the Operation & Maintenance Instruction book says look here (top of the drawbar mount) for s/n. Can almost see the tag where your battery cable ground lands.
