Be sure to file the mating surfaces to provide the gaskets a better sealing area.

bill used a sealer on his cork floats that he said was resistant to ethanol, but he didn't say what it was. I have tried his kits but the gaskets for the metering block were too thick, and they were cork and not soft enough for my particular carbs. I pulled the threads some in my nice brass carb. He said to tighten down the lid, but I would rather have a softer neoprene type gasket that would compress better. I had bits of the over compressed cork break loose. Then they would float around and plug up the venturi. I tried a local rubber and gasket company with no good service/results. I even looked online for material in the correct thickness but struck out. Maybe I could just sand down some thicker material?
I talked with Bill about reproducing these carbs. He said he looked into it one time and I don't believe much ever came of it.
O.P.- I think if you search I have made a post about this very subject in the past. I bought a repro Ford 8n carb and built an adapter for it. Those carbs new are like $50, but the # of those tractors that were produced dwarfs the # of Cat tractors we are talking about here.

Do you have a brand name for this sealer?

Bill's carb parts were all sold, I haven't found out who bought them yet. I have used the gas tank sealer successfully to seal up cork carb floats, still in use after 3 years. Paul

Paul,

Thanks for digging into that and finding out. We are just glad someone bought it all as opposed to be thrown out. Hopefully we will hear from that person in time.
