Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me where the alternator is located on the 955C and if it's a pain in the butt to change or if it's something I can do myself out in the field?
Thanks in advance!

Unless it's been changed to an alternator, it came from the factory with a generator.
My 955E came with direct electric start, so it has a 24V generator. It's located on the RH side of the engine and is gear driven.
Now for your question about changing it out; if you're sitting there looking at the machine and are having trouble locating the generator then you will need some help taking it off, but if you haven't yet tried to locate it and just wondering out loud then it's a really simple job. It's way easier than adjusting the clutch.

It very well may have an electric generator.. I haven't looked into it too hard. Machine starts and runs fine with a full battery for approximately 5 starts and then when you go to started again it won't Click to try and turn over.

If its got a generator you could try polarizing it,find the BAT and the ARM terminals on the voltage regulator, switch on the key,use a piece of wire and momentarily connect the two terminals, just tip them together like cracking a match, start up and check.

Better determine whether you have a "A" circuit or "B" circuit generator before you do that. If it's a Delco generator use AJ's method. If it's a American Bosch generator it's a "B" circuit. To polarize disconnect the field wire from the regulator and momentarily strike it on the "Bat" wire of the regulator.
Not correctly polarizing the generator will cause the points in the voltage regulator to stick and burn. Probably why your batteries are getting drained. Can also cause serious damage to the generator.

Thank you both for the great information. Do either of you have access to wiring diagram for the generator or regulator?

It's usually mounted right next to or on the generator. Seems you need to spend a little time familiarizing yourself with the machine

I certainly agree with you OM. Unfortunately I have A very Limited time with the machine since it's at my hunting property an hour away. I'm trying to maximize every minute I can when I get to work on it on weekends. I really do appreciate your help
