I was wondering if anyone had a specs on a 824 wheel dozer. saw one the other day and it had a 4 cylinder engine in it. looked like the original engine from what i could tell. looking for machine weight, what engine and hp. thanks steve.

There are many models of the 824, but none of them have a 4 cyl engine, the early ones had the D343, and the later ones have the 3406.

I think the early ones would go about 70-75, 000lbs; not sure of the later G series.

I am looking at the spec sheet for a 824B.It engine is a D343 four cycle 300hp.Shipping weight is 62,000 with the blade.

The early 824 dozer had a 250hp 4 cylinder version of the D343 which was also used in the early 619 scraper. I will check out the weight when I can find my old product line brochure.

The piece of literature that I have right handy here say, 824, 250 HP, wheelbase 140", weight 62,000#, tires 26.5-29 and it looks like it could be a 4 cyl. engine. This info is from Form 717-34777. I read that to be July-1977. Is that correct? This is the CAT Product Line mag. catskinner

Catskinner, what makes you think that your spec sheet is from July 1977? I have been trying to date my literature collection for some time now.Cat wasn't the best at putting dates on everything.As you say are the last three # of the form number the date? I have tried to use this way of determing the date and it does always work.Thanks for any help.Mike Durkin

This is kind of what I've been told about the way that Cat dated the info. It doesn't always work out for me or else I'm not looking at some of the numbers right. Some has the year right on it at the end. 1959, 3-57 and then some don't make any sense at all. What do others have to say about this? Did Cat have a CODE that they used on the literature? This would be interesting to find out so that we would know what year the info is. catskinner

You can forget trying to date Cat sales literature, it'll give you a big headache.. I am looking at product line leaflet form # 717-34777-2 which I have had since 1964 and it contains machinery only intoduced in 1964 and others which had ceased production by 1968.
Only service letters, service magizines and engine news are generally date coded.
