"I think I've been bitten by the bug or something! "

D8's are like that. There was one nearby for sale for years and I fought it off. The guy had to get rid of it and I offered him $1500 and he took it. I find that it is easier to work on than a D2. Everything is out in the open and easier to get at. Mine is a 1H model a little older than yours but basicly the same.

For the price he is asking you need to have some usable life in the undercarriage. Measure the rail height and pitch across 5 pins as suggested. Even if it only has 10% usable life it would be a bargain. You can problably milk this in to several trips back to sart it and check it out before you decide. If the tracks are shot you need to get it cheaper. They are worth about $2500 for scrap. I guy nearby trucked one to the scrap yord and drove it in.

Alex, I bought a High Output D8 a few months back. I had to pull the back head off because it was pumping water out the stack. The head was cracked and now I've found a bent rod.

I would definitely try to get it up and running before you buy it. That way at least know what your getting your self into.

They are kinda addicting. Here is the link to my D8

Remember trucking runs about $4-$5 per mile.
