ques on Cat part number

I was told that the CAT part number, for pony conn rod bearings, would be for half a set. In other words, one half a bearing for one rod. Why would anyone ever need to buy one half bearing? The boxes I saw were packaged 2 pieces per box, enough for one rod. Any reason the part number would be for half a box? Part number I am dealing with is 3B7938, but this may be an after market number.

When I looked up that part number in the Cat system, the picture shows half a bearing, but there is a note on it that says "This part number denotes two identical half shell bearings". I would guess from that note that you should get enough for one rod by just ordering one of that number.

Thanks,
Dave

The parts book lists the 3B7938 as .020" under size & it calls for 4 bearings for one engine when that higher SN D4 6U book was printed but the way Cat always changed numbers they could have come up with one number to supercede this one & put two bearings in one box but I,m not sure if they did or not.You would have to check at a dealer in their parts computer or NPR to see.
