There are going to be a lot more checks on type of fuel used in the UK One in five are using red diesel and a few are using veg.oil in their cars.I was thinking of getting a steam car.

It also seems that the local store owner might be participating in some of this. I buy Shell gas and several of the stations stay ahead of the price increase curve, while 2 or 3 stay behind the curve with either no increases or very slow to increase prices:confused: . I have seen as much as $.18 a gallon difference. I tend to support those stations even when prices settle down and all are about the same.

Some retailers may be taking what the oil companies are charging them and doing their own thing. I know there is always $.05 or more difference in price between a station on the interstate versus one 2-3 miles away. You can't tell me there is that much difference in the cost of transportation.

It's about $3.78 CAD per US gal ($1.00/litre) here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and going up on a weekly basis, you're still doing ok considering that a substantial amount of the unrefined product comes from the Tar Sands just 8 hours north of my house and flows right past me to get down south to the US refineries.

Here is another interesting point.

I spoke to a man that works at a local wholesaler and he stated that the prices are raised on everything they have when ever it comes over the wire or fax, phone etc not when they purchase a fresh load of fuel.

This means they may have paid less for that 50,000 gallons of fuel but still raise the price on it and make even more of a profit.

IE they dont raise the price as the price that they pay is raised.

I have a feeling they make a bundle on this liquid gold.

Maybe the local gas station does it this way as well and I/we just didn't realise it?

50 000 gallons x 3.50 per gallon = 175 000
50 000 gallons x 3.60 per gallon = 180 000

with a raise of .10 cents a gallon they just made a quick 5K

BB I agree too that the stations do the same if prices go up they cash in on the supply they have on hand in their underground tanks too.
