Can anyone give me a idea as to the model of D5, year weight and a ballpark value if it was in good runing condition, the UC is good. The machine is coming up at auction with a few other pieces that have some vandalism. I dont know the extent, Havent seen it in person and if I was smart I wouldent even look but what fun would that be.

What would be a typical job for a machine like this.

Steve, if you had accompanied me to Tonto's Spring Fling this May, you would have been able to operate a nice D5. We cleaned out his pond, and as luck would have it, one operator managed to break thru the top and bury the left side track frame in goo. It took Jim H's Sixty to pop him out. I am guessing that if the D5 were outfitted the way this one is, it would have gone a little deeper into the pond B4 getting sucked under.:eek:

They made many models of D5, including LGP series from the 60's on up. Need a model and serial number to identify. Bare tractor weight about 25,000 lbs. My guess is maybe that's a 70's model. You can cruise through www.machinerytrader.com for price comparison.

The first D5 LGP came out in 1967 98A and was built in Japan and was direct drive next was dir.dr. 68J in 1968 from Japan then in the 6R powershift and 12R dir.dr. France 1972, then it goes on to D5B,D5C&D5H but no LGP D5 of and ser. was made in USA. D5B 45X PS-46X DD France 1978, D5C 3MK PS Japan 1991, D5H 9HC00 DD,9HC04 PS France 1990, D5H 1DD00 DD 1986,1DD04 PS 1990 France,D5H 1YD00 DD 1986,1YD04 PS 1990 Japan D5H 4KD00 DD 1986, 4KD04 1990 Japan

Can anyone shed some light on the reputation of the D5. A couple of years ago I repaired a D5B which was destined for scrap. The owner had cat look at it and they said it wasn't worth repairing (had broken pivot axle and final drive problems). Cat was sold to new owner eight years later as is and new owner got me to repair it. Time had taken its toll and a few more problems had surfaced (stuck steering clutches, motor not running rusted valves and water in gearbox) the cat mechanic had left it apart and it was out in the weather. After repairs it ran well and worked hard but everyone told me and the new owner that D5 cats were no good and doomed to failure. Is there any truth to this or is it just not true.

Once they evolved passed the D333 engines into the 3306 series in about the mid 70's I think they were a fine tractor. Anything can be torn up;) ;)

Thanks for the reply Old Magnet,
When the repairs were finished I worked it for a couple of days and found it very easy to operate and powerful for its size, the new owner seemed very happy with it also and has done a considerable amount of work without any problems. Time will tell but all seems good so far.
