Shims for 3306 was created by pjcat
Hi there!
I am rebuilding a 3306 engine from a D6C. The liners need to be shimmed and we are having a hard time finding shims in the size we need. I got the information that one has to counterbore the deck to the next thickest shim, which would be .030". I am trying to avoid the machining and was hoping to find shims in thickness .005" or .006" and .008" or .009" I was lucky and found some shims ind the .008" and .009" thickness, but they do not have the thinner ones. Anyone knows a source were we could find these shims?
Thanks a lot

According to my service manual they only come in 0.007, 0.008, 0.009, 0.015 and 0.030 " thickness, at least from Cat source.

Its a waste of time fitting shims without cleaning up the counterbore seat, its because of erosion here that shims are required, best do it right first time.

I will check more on the counter-bore condition. We wanted to do it the easy way, just add the shims, specially as the crank and cam is already in place. But now it looks like we have to machine this counter-bores first to spec.

You may not need to take the crank out, Cat dealers should have the kit to do this work just by stripping as far as liner removal, others can do it cheaper but usually with the bare block in their machine shop.

Hey old magnet, that is exactly what i was looking for. :) A thousand thanks.
Now it was a breeze to order those at cat dealer. Before they didn't know where to find this information... kind of ridiculous.

Hi BW Farms,
welcome to the BB.
Due to attachment space limitations we have to periodically remove scans from our old posts to post more for current subjects--soon due to change with the new BB.

Cheers,
Eddie B.
