Hello ACMOC members and enthusiast. I would like to share with you some of my experiences with caterpillar tractors.
As a young lad my father farmed in south central Kansas with a T-20 International. My legs were not long enough to reach the pedals so I wasn't allowed to learn to operate it. But in 1948 he traded that old T-20 in on a brand new Caterpillar D2. This cat had an electric starter for the starting motor, electric lights, abd lots of other goodies. Well I was allowed to learn to operate this new tractor. The hand clutch wasn't a problem for my short legs and I guess I had grown some because now I could reach the steering brakes. Little did I know that after some experience I would get to spend the entire summer vacation on that D2.

After I finished high school I went to work for the county hyway dept. They put me on a D4 pulling a sheep's foot. When one of the operators would miss work I would get to operare their machine, D6 with scraper, D7 witg cable dozer, D8 push cat, and No. 12 grader. It wasn't long before I was the permanent D7 operator. After a couple of years I decided it wasn't for me so
I went on to other endeavors.

Some 40+ years later I bought a D2 (1951 model) to do some work around this place. It has an interchangeable bucket and blade. The bucket was setup to dump by releasing a hook (no good for this old man). I found a (2) spool #44 hyd. pump to replace the single spool valve on mine. bought (2) 20
inch cylinders and now have hyd. dump on bucket.

When I purchased the D2 I fully intended to tear into it and rebuild as necessary but now that I have finished digging out the hillside beside the garage, I find myself reluctant to undertake the task. Plus I really don't have the equipment to handle those heavy parts. My age and health doesn't help either. Anyway, the D2 is for sale. Would like to see some one rebuild it.

Harry---
You probably need to correct your For Sale post----its headed up D3 for sale. You should be able to correct it by using the edit feature at the bottom of the screen.
Neat looking little D2
good luck on making your sale. But you can still hang around and visit with us some. I know about "age and health"
and clumbsy fingers on the keyboard also
so welcome to the club.

A good topic to keep going. I started on a D8 2U when I was 14 and worked through my summer holidays. The starter on the pup didn't work so it was the hand crank that started it whenever I stalled it. Phil
