The engine ran well for probably a hundred hours right after I put the Dike in it. Then it sat over the winter until next spring and I had to replace the water pump seal and used it 10-15 hours max. At that time it began to show moisture on the dipstick though the oil stayed black as I remember until we got close to through with the job. At that point I was again assuming I had to overhaul it to stop the leak but since it also had a seep along the head gasket, I decided to try retorqueing the head first.

During that process I was lucky to discover a rusted out soft plug under the valve cover. Replaced all 7 plugs, torqued the head and reassembled it. That dried up the moisture in the crankcase but still had the seep on the head gasket. That wasn’t really anything more than a nuisance so I left it at that. Later I had a neighbor who wanted to buy it so I told him it’s history and what to watch for and we made the deal. He ran it until it started getting diesel in the oil. Unfortunately he didn’t stop and by the time he called me it was knocking. Crankshaft had already been turned undersized so I told him I could put in the whole engine I had in the shed cheaper than finding another crank and overhauling his engine. I was planning to do the work at his place but one day he showed up at my shop with it on a trailer. He had cranked it up and got it loaded before the #2 rod blew out the left side of the block! That let the coolant out of it! I don’t think the lower liner seals leaked a drop after I put the Dike in it until it threw the rod.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D
