I am having trouble finding the right old cat yellow.I have bought old highway yellow from three Cat Dealers with different part numbers. There paint is a darker yellow like the D4 on the last front cover of magazine and the rustoleum cat yellow. The yellow I want is the lighter old cat yellow. This is a 1956 D2 5U trying to get ready for the Brooks show. Thanks

D4E,

You might try:
part number 4C-4185 (gallon of early Hwy yellow)
part number 4C-4189 (gallon thinner)
Part number 206-6417 (Hwy Yellow in spray can)

These are available at my local Cat dealer and I'm assuming at most other Cat dealers. It's not cheap and it took several attempts before they came up with the right color for the older gear. Major pain in the but to return stuff, so I got in the habit of checking the color before I left the parts dept:( . They kept trying to sell me the newer yellow which to me is darker and closer to orange.

The gallon can paint is thick enough to require the thinner which isn't all that expensive and doesn't require much.

Good luck,
Tom

Here are the results on a D4D with the paint described by tomseabee. I'd recommend thinning to 20% as it did not flow well at 10% thinning as recommended. Doing a viscosity check worked for me to get to the 20%

Nice Looking Paint!
I've noticed variations in the paint also. As I sandblast and reassemble I am using whatever yellow to cover the bare metal with.
Tractor started out Olive Drab, now I am toying with going back to that instead of yellow.

Drujinin, I went to the local Cat dealer today and got 2 spray cans of 206-6417 Hiway Yellow and it is the lighter/brighter shade. Cost $7.55/can.
