Spring Snow Storm

Spring Snow Storm was created by D4Doug
We had a pretty good little snow storm this week and I had to get out the D4 and plow. Lots of wind and deep snow drifts. The County was out opening their road a few days later. They have a little newer equipment but the old D4 did it's duty. The old Cat will still push a lot of snow. It was a little like visiting the King of Obsolete.

Least you don't have to watch out for 7' tall 6 toed Sasquaches all over the road while you plow it.

I don't think a Sasquache would dare cross our country. If the wolves didn't get them first, the oil trucks would run them over. It's hard to hide behind a sagebrush when you are that tall.

That D2 photo looks just like some 1950's Caterpillar factory photos I have of a rancher plowing out drifts to feed his cattle. Only yours are in color.

D4 Doug: I just got off the phone with Dick Bodine who lives in Sheridan, WY. I didn't realize how much snow you folks got. Dick had the pleasure of operating one of his bulldozers to clear out his road and driveway. That, after he had had back surgery recently. He did it carefully with a back brace to help him.

You have some beautiful photos here, and I thank you for posting them.

Here is a couple more shots of my recent adventures in the snow. One is the D4 coming to the rescue of my Hough H50c which took a bad turn during zero visibility. It's always intersting how stupid things look when you can see where you are going. The other shot is my son walking the D4 7U back to the ranch with the wonderful Wyoming snow stuck to the blade. I would have tried the Toro if I had one. We were also out of electricity for four days and I was ready to ride a Toro to town for a hot shower.

King,

I am not sure I want to use my welder to bath with yet. I was too busy using it to run the battery charger and engine heaters. My propane fireplace proved to be a wonderful investment as it kept the house toasty warm. I did have to do bizarre things like pack vaccine in snow in a cooler but keep it in the house so it wouldn't freeze. We have a small house at our "cow camp" on the other end of the ranch that is all propane- lights, refrigerator, stove and furnace. We all lamented the fact we were slaves to the power company at this end of the ranch. The D4 proved to be the only thing that I didn't get stuck. I managed to get stuck my Hough H50C, the Cat 12-71D, four 4x4 pickups and the little John Deere 770. Here is photo of the John Deere and it's snow blower in action....It's almost a Toro.
