I just watched a You Tube video from Toby (Sasquatch) telling his viewers that Florin Tractor is going out of business. What a shame! They have been a major resource for all of us who want to keep our vintage machines running. I just thought you would like to know.

That is terrible news, they are great to deal with, and have a lot of parts at fair prices, I wonder who will buy their stock?

Noticed on the YouTube Channel with Toby that 13,270 had viewed the Florin Closing video the first day. That would indicate there is a lot of interest in old Cats. Makes one wonder why our membership struggles.

I noticed the same thing as D4Jim but with Youtube one has to remember that some % from the views come from people over seas and other odd locations.
As someone living in Estonia: I can't say the interest in old crawlers has sky rocketed in my friend circle.Do notice slight rise in intertest. Then again you learn from these videos no matter who is the author a lot of new stuff all the time. Lot of the tips and tricks can be applied on other similar applications that are based on old CAT patents.

A shame Florin Tractor parts is closing. I can only imagine the reasons behind it. Hopefully the video spreads and people are able to salvage what they can.

Hi Jim, Toby's channel has a lot of viewers that are not in the Cat collector community but rather are folks that just like the style of video (working on old equipment, being thorough and fully descriptive which Toby does very effectively), and his content is arranged as a set of multi-episode stories, engaging the viewer and making him want to come back for more. Plus, the bonus for these tractor stories is that at the end, the machine "comes alive" and that's the ultimate reward for following the story. This is typical of many popular youtube channels where the content provides entertainment, just like the movies. I watch youtube on content that I'll never be a part of, but find interesting. Movie makers do the same thing with their prequels and sequels - my kids can't wait for the next Marvel superhero movie : )
I think that's the challenge for any club, which is how to turn "idle" interest into actual memberships involving an outlay. Unfortunately there seems to be no secret sauce, although it is true that the candidate has to see a tangible value to make him take action

Cheers,
Neil

Neil is absolutely right, a good percentage of my viewers have commented something like "I live in a city, and have never even driven a tractor, and likely never will, but I find this content very interesting!" The majority of the rest who aren't already club members usually fall into one of two groups - either they don't like the "political" atmosphere that comes with clubs they've joined in the past, or they can't/won't pay the cost of any club membership, because they can get their old iron fix for "free" aside from having to sit through a couple video ads or with the way everyone's budgets are being stretched these days, adding another expense to the billing cycle isn't an option.

Looks like the ground sold about a month ago. I found a listing with closed listed as the status. I will have to get an email sent to see if they have any thing left that I need. I was sad to see TAP go when Florin bought them out. Now Florin is going too.

I had a visit with Dana 3 or 4 years ago at the Santa Margarita Best of the West when it was the national show. His children had all helped with the business but had other interests and where moving on to other things. He was hoping someone might come out of the woodwork and show interest in the business, but was thinking it would hard to find anyone wanting buy what he had. So a very sad day for the old Caterpillar community but not a real shock. Sometimes it is to sad we humans cannot get a mag and carb rebuild get back to how much we use to get done. But live is what it is.

Thank you for the service to the Caterpillar community Dana. Hope you have years to sit and enjoy a tall cool one.
