Fuel pump drops its prime overnight

Fuel pump drops its prime overnight on the D318 8T ... Now what did I do?
Ok I ran out of fuel the other night just as the engine started to warm up. Added fuel, ran pony, bled the injection lines (at the pump) diesel started and ran normal. Now every time I start it cold (overnight) I have to bleed the lines again. Now what did I do?
Fuel gauge is pegged once started so there is lots of pressure.  Gleaned the service manuals but did not see if the fuel filter housing need burped after running out of fuel. I did see the info on upper and lower bleeder valves. Once there is enough fuel to run the diesel dose the fuel housing still need to be bled? Or did I answer my own question? I figured one it started it would work out any air pockets.
I've checked and made sure the inj. lines that I cracked were tight. I did crack the top bleeder valve for a second but it was dark and I could not see anything. After the diesel started I made sure all line I cracked open were tightened.

my guess is that when you bled the system one of the bleeds is now allowing an air leak into the system after the engine is shut down and the fuel returns to the tank. i would use some penetrating oil or carb cleaner and open each bleeder and clean them out real good and try again. could be a fraction of rust on the valve seat

Ha ha ... went out there and a moose was hanging out just a little too close to work on the grader... I'll go back in a little bit and let it meander off. I'll grab some pics if it is still out there.

I'd be keeping a close watch on oil level in case fuel is winding up in the sump.

I had the same problem on my 7T with 4600. turns out I hadn't got one of the bleed screws all the way tight after beading. FYI i like moose meat lol

Yea you have you open the lower bleeder first then when clear fuel appears close and open the top one and do the same.
