I need some help sorting R2 Exhaust manifold , S/N 4J961. This is a late Model R2 sold new here in Australia ., not a common Unit out Here, BUT I have a problem with Exhaust system Changeover. [On- Off ] I asume this unit is Petrol /Kero . Its full history prior to Mid Fifties I don't Know, But it had a massive Fire prior to that Time . Machine was Moved out to Western Qld for what reason no one Knows.. Many parts Burnt or Ratted , Head off, Gear box open, Manifolds laying on top when I found it. [Original Walking Gear like Brand New] BUT My Books do not show this Exhaust Manifold at all with 5B4876 Embossed on it. The Valve 5B4878 does not have a Shaft on it. Plate 6B418 fits all models. I have taken Pictures ,going to Try and Attach them , haven't done that before so hope it works. The way it looks to Me is the only way You can Change the on/off valve is to Undo Studs on Front [and Move it.] the valve will not Work on the rear at all as locating grooves are slighly offset. Does anyone have an R2 with the 5B4878 Manifold ? and could You take a picture and Post for Me . Sure would appreciate any help or Ideas. Hope Pics attach Thanks LJ
Hi Lance,
5B4876 crosses to 5B5140, Manifold Assembly used on the later 4J R2 for Tractor Fuels, 5B5140 includes, manifold 8B8096, manifold 7B5713, ring 7B5712 and gasket 7B5757, is shown in the parts catalog.
Thank You Josh, I wondered if there Would be an Update ,,But I still can't figure ,it Out, Going to be fully Tied up for a Couple Days , when I will dig Deeper and will try a get those Photos up also. Rax2000 is helping Me sort the Gremlins out on that issue. Thanks again LJ
If I understand what you are talking about, that heat control is not part of the exhaust manifold
But is in fact part of the intake manifold
I have 4J469 tractor and the parts book show yours would be the same
My cousin's Twenty-Two heat box was paper-thin and burned out at the top, so I set my gas tip really low and fed mild rod on to it and managed to seal it up again. I think though I'd just make a new one out of plate. I live in hope that one day Byron will cast some new ones but I think that's a vain hope : )
Neil, you would think with all the 22 tractors made, what was it, 16,000, that it wouldn't be that hard to find a decent manifold, but I said the same when I started looking for decent used manifolds for my 30's last year.
Sadly it will probably be cheaper for you to buy a non running 22 with shot undercarriage and wreck it just for the manifolds, wasn't there a pair of 22's advertised not long ago for less than $2,000?
All the best
Mike
There was Mike but I'd hope to get a new manifold for less than 2k and the hassle of two extra machines : ) The manifolds normally aren't the issue - it's the heat box that goes paper thin unfortunately. Still, I reckon a bloke could whip one up out of mild and get the needle gun on it to turn it into "cast iron". Probably look legit from a distance and for sure wouldn't need to leak, and would probably be working
