Spark Plug wire question

More
3 years 6 months ago #226721 by puffer@rpi.edu
Hey guys, I am getting close to the first start after the restoration of my CAT 22, 2F5209. A real simple question. What plug wires and connectors should I get, and where to get them? Probably as important, what plug wires and materials should I avoid? Most of what I see on line are silicone, or some other fancy material that might not be good for an old CAT.

It has a mag, get whatever you can find/want THAT has solid wire core. Most likely will have mutiple wire strands, okie dokie, fine good to go.

Hi Ray, Brillman.com has spark plug wire that is listed specifically for a Twenty-Two for about 30-40 clams but they also sell stock so you can make up your own

Cheers,

I second Neil's recommendation, I've used Brillman's cloth wrapped copper core wire and fittings over the years, all good quality, just buy a roll of the vintage style black wire and cut to length.

what is harder to get are the metal crimp on plug ends. I tried some very nice aftermarket NGK insulated twist on ends and they wouldn't work. changed to metal ends which took some finding and worked a treat just not insulated so mind your hand when working around the running pilot engine dad found out the hard way and the tilt tray driver thought it was a great joke as he saw the spark bite dad while standing beside the truck. we had just bought her home and were unloading it.

thankfully in the state you have a larger classic and custom car scene than we do in Aus so those sort of things are more readily available. there's more people just in new york city than in my entire state. it doesnt help im in a small town either our local stores dont carry much of that stuff.

Just ordered wires from Brillman for my d2 pony motor. Really like the insulation on the spark plug end, have been bit more than once by the raw ends

I got the "Modern" sparkplug wire set, with the molded insulators. Excellent quality.
