Tom posted this in the show thread, but I also wanted to make sure it was in the general discussion area, too.

I have been off the list for about six months because I have been so busy with work. I am still pretty busy so I don't get to check in every day like I used to, but I will check back at least a few times a week between now and the Woodland show.

I live in Bakersfield and have posted pictures of our 1969 single axle Freightliner and lowbed before. Our truck and trailer aren't pretty, but they are safe and reliable.

I will be making several trips up to Woodland, mostly on the weekends between now and the middle of June, and returning, mostly on the weekends for a few weeks after the show.

If anyone needs a ride for their tractor from anywhere around here to the show and back, please let me know. We will have length and weight room on our loads and I want to make sure that anyone interested in being at the show has a chance.

I am sure that we can work out some way to get your equipment up there safely and securely.

We also have one friend flying in from Australia for the show, so if anyone overseas is coming in, particularly to Los Angeles, and needs a ride to and from the show, just let me know and we can arrange for transportation.

My cell phone number is (661) 343-3691. I look forward to seeing everyone at the show.

Pete.

Hi, Garlic Pete.
It's good that you are able to offer some help to prospective exhibitors to get their prides and joys to and from the show. Great stuff.

There are several of us coming from DownUnder to the show. One that I know of is already over there doing some restoration work on his own stuff and some other people's machines as well. Another is flying over in early June to help with floating to and from the show and will be in Cal. for most of the month of June. I am flying in on June 16th. I am renting a car from San Francisco airport and will be doing a little sight-seeing before the show and for a day or so afterwards. There are also a couple of people down South around Wasco and Temecula whom I want to catch up with if they find they can't make it to the show. I'd really like to be able to put more faces to more names at the show as well.

I am thinking of hiring a small camper van for the duration to combine and hopefully reduce travel/accommodation expenses and make things a little more convenient for myself. Do you have any thoughts on this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hey Deas if you are going to Temecula you have to drive right by here, stop in if you have time.

BTW do you know that Temecula is 450 miles/7 hours from 'frisco? Not exactly a day trip :)

Hi, Mike Mc.
Take yerseff a C-gar. You've picked it in one.

Carlsharp, I know Temecula is not quite a day trip, at least not with all So-Cal's traffic. LOL. I'm thinking that I have 3 days before the show starts and that might be a good way of filling them in as there is a guy, JDOFMEMI, down that way with whom I'd like to catch up AND it'd be a good opportunity to see some of your side of the pond, be it ever so little. I'd really like to call in and put a face to another name on the way, either down or back so, if you want to give me your on-the-ground address and a phone number, I'll see how I go for time.

It is just possible that both Madog and JDOFMEMI may make it to the show. Madog has his own helo and may fly up for a day. Even if they both make it there, I'd still be looking at taking a drive in the country as one doesn't learn a whole lot about another country from sitting in a motel room.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Deas,

Two worthwhile major old iron museums to try and see in California if you possibly can:

1) Vista Antique Steam and Gas Engine Museum (a half hour drive from Temecula). 55 acres of hundreds of old tractors, trucks, stationary steam and gas engines and much more.

agsem.com/about.html

2) San Joaquin County Historical Museum (an hour south of Woodland in Lodi). Besides half an acre of museum buildings, also a large boneyard of old equipment.

I assume you already plan to visit the Heidricks Tractor Museum and Hayes Antique Truck Museum in Woodland, two more must-sees.

Regarding renting a vehicle, you might be better off dollar-wise renting a Corolla or other 30 mpg-plus car rather than a fuel-guzzling RV (expensive rates, too). Motel rooms are only about $40 to $50 a night.

Hi Team, I'll also be visiting California for a month starting around June 4th. I'll be based in King City in the Salinas Valley with my family, so intend heading up to Woodland for the kity cat show. Anybody in the Salinas Valley to say hi to while I'm hanging out with my farming buddies?
regards
Mike

Hi, Cat Spotter.
Thanks for the heads-ups on the museums and the thoughts about car rentals. That one down at Temecula, Vista, sounds like it would be a solid day's outing on its own. LOL. I hadn't given any thought to the Hayes truck museum and didn't realise it was in the vicinity. I'll have to see how I go for time on that one. I do want to visit the Heidrich museum. I wouldn't mind catching up with Fred C. on his own turf either. I first met him at a show DownUnder a couple of years ago. He seems like a good bloke. I gather there is going to be a bit of the Heidrich collection at the show.

Mike Meyer, Shhhhhhhh! Don't let the Yanks know that we're staging a take-over of their show. They might get all jittery and nervous. LOL. Maybe I'll bump into you over there.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Deas:

If you are going to be staging a take over, get it done soon so we can hand the keys to you guys and you can do all of the work down the home stretch and we can kick back and enjhoy the show. LOL
